About Me

Hello!  I am a stay-at-home mom to 3 children...twin girls and one boy.  I have been sewing since I was 13, making outfits for myself by 16.  One of the first outfits I ever made was a button-up blouse with a zip-up A-line skirt--it was all purple!  I'm guessing it was either my favorite color or the fabric was on sale for a really good price!  I actually made this outfit in Home Ec.  I continued to learn alot about sewing from my mother.  I felt so privileged to be able to sew on her sewing machine; I imagine in much the same way my girls are in awe over mine.

I have always said sewing is "good therapy."  It has a way of soothing the soul.  I find that if I'm not sewing, I'm online looking at fabric, shopping for patterns, reading other sewing blogs or organizing something in my sewing room.  My newest passion is the wonderful sewing books that include patterns.  I want all of them! LOL

I absolutely love sewing for my children even more than I enjoy sewing for myself.  I think because there is little altering at this age, and no matter what, they just look adorable in everything.  However, they are getting older now and have started developing their own sense of style.  This is a good thing.  This is also more challenging for me.  I will show them a pattern and ask them if they like it and they will say, "yes, but could you do this part different?"  I never thought like that when I first started sewing.  I can only imagine what they will be creating when they are older.  I have all of my children on the sewing machine.  It's actually easier to get them on it than you might think.  Children learn so quickly.  I love to hear one of my girls coaching her older brother on the sewing machine.  My girls are even drafting their own barbie and stuffed toy patterns.

I am also a breast cancer survivor.  Please see my tab on my journey if you or someone you know has or is going through this.  It transforms your life.

I sew with my Pfaff Performance 5.0, Janome Memory Craft 6500, Janome MyLock, and my Janome 900 CPX.  My children are sewing with my older machine, a Pfaff Tiptronic 2040.  We have an old Brother machine, but my husband uses that to sew his patches on his uniform.

Above all, God and family first.  I'm thankful for so much in my life.  I don't take anything for granted.  I feel truly blessed.

I hope you enjoy looking at my blog.  I would love for you to follow me and share your blog with me too!

Yum!  My first cannoli  at a cafe in Sicily last April (2014)!  This has to be the best dessert EVER!

My hair came in all grey/whitish after chemo....what???  Hello Loreal!  LOL  Funny thing is, when I color my hair, the temporary lasts a really, really long time now.  It use to never color the little grey I had before completely, but now it does.  I am loving that!

Sincerely,
Shirley
